METHODOLOGY EXPLAINED

After reading the below explanation, you may want to proceed to Classes to understand how our lessons are run.
The methodology is simple. In fact, much of it is similar with the school's way of doing things, i.e. lesson time, homework, corrections. So what makes our methodology special?
First and foremost, it is similar to MOE and most other institution of doing things because it is the most effective and proven way. That is what make Singapore mould one of, if not, the top performing student population on the globe.
No amount of teaching is enough without self-directed practice. Hence, all institution hand out homework. Below, I will talk more about the importance of homework and the need to complete them, along with how a simple Handbook can help the child better manage their assignment.
As for corrections, it is about feedback. Students learn faster when feedback are given because they are given a direction through guidance if they are on the wrong path. The more regular the feedback, the faster the child learn. And that is why most often than not, children who have support/guidance from their parents usually tends to perform better in school, because they receive regular feedback in their work, since parents are the only "teacher" which sees their children every single day.
Whatsapp Help Line
In lieu of that the main thing we are doing different from other institution is giving parents and students the rights to contact us when their child have doubts. Because we understand that although parents are able to explain most primary school questions, but it may be tricky to deliver a complex explanation in a simple way. However, always ensure your child attempt the questions first before contacting us for guidance. We have seen cases where the "Whatsapp helpline" backfire because students become over reliant on the tutors for clues and hints, which discourage them to analyse and think on their own, resulting children to underuse their critical thinking. Take note, also that, we will NOT be giving answers to your child when they ask for guidance, what we will be doing is to give clues and provide guidance in solving the question. Because we understand that our objectives is to allow your child get the correct answers during exam, not just during tuition, and to do that, we have to give them clues and guidance to motivate them to work when they are demoralise and stuck in any questions, giving them answers does not help them think of solutions.
Homework
Each subject have their own approach. But regardless of the approach, the key to betterment lies in practice. Hence, the homework.
Although homework has always been part and parcel of education, but many students are unable to understand the rationale behind it.
All learning requires practice to achieve perfection. Based on this understanding, we give our students homework, which aids in ensuring that students' memory of new knowledge acquired remains refreshed over the week.
Handbook
Student's assignment will be written down on their handbook weekly.
Being young, students tend to lack discipline. Therefore, all students are given a small book which will reflect the homework for the week. Parents will thus be able to know what homework are given and help to keep an eye on their child, thereby ensuring that knowledge learned are remembered.
Reward and punishment
Studies have shown that reward works better than punishment in encouraging behaviour, not just for children but also for adults. However, reward and punishment together, is even more effective in encouraging a behaviour. More details can be found on Students Benefits.
Therefore, we have put in place both.
For students who do not finish their homework they will have to stay back or come back another day to finish it (like detention). This will drill into them the sense that one way or another the homework have to be done.
For students who complete their work on time, they will be rewarded with points, which can be used to exchange for prizes.
Subjects Approach
Different subjects attempts to educate a different aspect of a child's mind, e.g. mathematics is about logic and calculations, science is about understanding and creativity.
Every subject will require student to approach it differently and hence different teaching methodology are catered for each subjects.
Language (English/Chinese)
The key to improving one's language is not tuition, but the most traditional method -- reading and writing. Unlike other subjects which one can memorise and where there is a standard set of solutions, there is none for languages because languages are based on sentences and they come in various forms. One cannot be taught why is it "Who are you?" instead of the chinese "You are who?" (incorrect direct translation). It all boils down to reading, writing and more reading and more writing. Only with reading and writing, can one improve his or her sentence structure and vocabulary exponentially.
Tuition for languages is meant for improving one's grammar and for the teacher to identify any mistake in the student's understanding of the language. From time to time, the teacher also acts as a disciplinarian to ensure that students put in effort by assigning reading, writing and spelling assignments.
Mathematics
Mathematics questions are build on a foundation of basic concepts. To be able to do well in mathematics, student must first be familar with the basics of mathematics including formulas, calculations and laws.
Only with a solid foundation, will students have the ability to tackle more advanced problem sums. The challenging part about problem sums is the understanding. If a student does not truly understand a solution, no matter how many attempts are made, their doubts will never be resolved. Hence, a teacher must be made available to explain these solutions.
In our tuition, on top of teacing these basic mathematics concept, we will be handing out worksheets. The worksheets will help identify potential pitfalls of students. Based on their weaknesses, we will derive questions of our own to specifically tackle these areas.
Science
Alike Mathematics, Science is build on a foundation of basic concepts. Students have to first memorise and understand the law of nature.
But unlike Mathematics, there are no standard formulae to answer questions in Science. Students must have a deep sense of understanding in the cause and effect around them. The teacher is there to help explain the "Why?" behind such events. Only with such understanding, can students answer the phenomenon described in questions.
In our tuition, we will explain the "Why?". Human beings tend to remember stories, images and video better than text. Therefore, we will explain Science with the aid of videos and pictures.
